The Atlanta Falcons head into tonight’s matchup with the Green Bay Packers facing a problem that is becoming difficult to explain away: the offense simply has not shown up.

Atlanta is 0–2, and the numbers are ugly. The Falcons have scored just 16 points through their first two games and, remarkably, have yet to reach the red zone. After being embarrassed 34–3 by Carolina last week, this team has very little room for another lifeless performance.

There is, however, one major reason for optimism: Michael Penix Jr. is back.

Penix will make his first NFL start since suffering a season-ending ACL injury last November. His return should immediately give the Falcons more explosiveness and credibility in the passing game. But expecting one quarterback to magically fix everything would be a mistake. The offensive line has to protect him, the play-calling has to become more creative, and Atlanta’s talented receivers need to actually be involved.

Bijan Robinson has been one of the few consistent bright spots, but the Falcons cannot keep treating him as the entire offense. Drake London and Kyle Pitts need opportunities, and Penix needs the freedom to attack downfield.

The defense also has plenty to prove. Atlanta just allowed Bryce Young to throw for 287 yards and three touchdowns. Tonight, Jordan Love and the Packers’ passing attack present another serious test. Green Bay is dealing with injuries of its own, including multiple offensive linemen and receiver Jayden Reed, giving Atlanta an opportunity to create pressure.

But opportunities mean nothing if the Falcons fail to capitalize.

Tonight is not simply about winning or losing. It is about whether Atlanta finally looks like a team with a plan. After two disappointing weeks, Falcons fans deserve evidence that this season is going somewhere.
