The Toronto Maple Leafs staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the Boston Bruins 5-4 in overtime on Tuesday night at TD Garden. Trailing 3-0 early in the game and 4-3 late in the third period, the Leafs showcased resilience and determination to secure their third consecutive victory.

The Bruins opened the scoring just 29 seconds into the game. Defenseman Mason Lohrei delivered a precise stretch pass to David Pastrnak, who skated in alone and beat Toronto goaltender Anthony Stolarz blocker side on a breakaway. This goal extended Pastrnak’s point streak to 15 games, during which he has accumulated 30 points (13 goals, 17 assists). 

Boston doubled its lead at 13:59 of the first period. Pastrnak’s shot from the left circle deflected off Toronto defenseman Jake McCabe and landed on the stick of Brad Marchand, who buried the puck past Stolarz on the power play. The Bruins nearly extended their lead further, but Stolarz made a crucial save on Morgan Geekie’s point-blank chance late in the first period.

The Bruins continued their offensive surge in the second period, with Morgan Geekie scoring just six seconds into a power play at 10:06. Elias Lindholm’s rebound from the left circle found Geekie, who one-timed it past Stolarz to make it 3-0.

The Maple Leafs began their comeback at 13:52 of the second period. Defenseman Morgan Rielly received a cross-ice pass from Matthew Knies and fired a shot over Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman’s glove to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Toronto continued to chip away at the lead in the third period. Mitch Marner brought the Leafs within one at 1:59, stickhandling between the circles before firing a wrist shot from inside the left dot to make it 3-2. Then, at 6:39, Nick Robertson tied the game at 3-3 with a transition wrist shot that Rielly orchestrated with a head feed through the Boston defense.

The Bruins regained the lead at 9:27 when Pastrnak carried the puck out of the left corner and scored a quick-release shot under the crossbar to make it 4-3. However, the Maple Leafs were not done yet. With the goalie pulled in the final minute, Pontus Holmberg scored an extra-attacker goal with …  to force overtime. 

In the overtime period, Marner completed his two-goal performance by scoring the game-winning goal with 51.3 … . He received a long pass from Auston Matthews and deked Swayman to slide the puck home, securing the victory for Toronto.
