Bengals fans experienced approximately 47 years of emotional trauma in about 47 seconds Tuesday.
Ja’Marr Chase went up for a deep ball from Joe Burrow during practice, landed awkwardly and immediately grabbed his left knee. And just like that, every Bengals fan within a 100-mile radius probably stopped breathing.
You know the drill. The group chats exploded. Social media detectives went to work. Suddenly everyone with a Twitter account and a medical degree from Google was diagnosing Chase.
Thankfully, the panic appears to have been premature.
After practice, Chase said he suffered a slight hyperextension of his left knee and, most importantly, said he feels fine. He even said he could have continued practicing if necessary.
Cue the collective sigh of relief in Cincinnati.
Obviously, the Bengals aren’t going to take any chances with their superstar receiver. Chase is far too important to the offense, and nobody needs to see him risking his knee in August just to prove he can catch a football.
So, Bengals fans, put the defibrillator back in the drawer.
For now, Ja’Marr Chase appears to be okay.
And honestly, that’s exactly what everyone wanted to hear.
