There are comebacks. There are surprises. And then there is Aaron Donald apparently deciding retirement was getting a little boring and looks better than ever.

Two years after walking away from the NFL, the future Hall of Famer is back with the Los Angeles Rams. And somehow, this doesn’t feel like a nostalgia tour. It feels like the final piece of a roster that has quietly become downright ridiculous.

Think about what the Rams already have.

Matthew Stafford is coming off an MVP season. Myles Garrett arguably the most terrifying pass-rusher in football is already on the defensive line. And now Donald, a three-time Defensive Player of the Year with 111 career sacks, is putting the No. 99 jersey back on.

So, naturally, opposing offensive coordinators should be sleeping wonderfully.

The scary part isn’t even expecting Donald to return as the exact same monster who terrorized quarterbacks for a decade. He doesn’t need to. If Donald commands a double-team, Garrett gets a one-on-one. If you slide protection toward Garrett, Donald gets a gap. And if you decide to block neither?

Well, that’s between you and your offensive line coach.

The Rams are already Super Bowl favorites, and with Super Bowl LXI being played at SoFi Stadium, the stars are lining up almost suspiciously well.

Of course, football has a funny way of humbling predictions. Injuries happen. Bad bounces happen. Somewhere along the way, Sean McVay will probably make us all question a fourth-down decision.

But this roster doesn’t need perfection.

It needs health, a little January magic and Aaron Donald being Aaron Donald.

And if that happens?

Rams fans might want to clear some space in the trophy case.

Because this doesn’t feel like a comeback.

It feels like unfinished business.
