For the Atlanta Falcons fan, patience has become all to common.
Falcons fans over the years since the departure of Matty Ice has been noting short of patient. Patient with new quarterbacks, patient with roster development, and patient with winning. This is mark the next change in a new chapter for the falcons.
The Falcons lastest decision is even more encouraging and we are not waiting anylonger. After Nameing Tua Tagovailoa The week 1 starter over Micheal Penix Jr. May not be the flashiest decision, but it is the right one for week 1. Penix will be the QB of the future, but he is still recovering from a torn ACL and has not layed in the preseason. Tua on the other hand has een practicing since april and giving Atlanta a health veteran undercenter who has played at a high level.
Falcons fans are not giving up on Penix just yet. Again Falcons fans are being patient and protecting their investment for the future.
Reasoning why this make scne for the Falcons….
Bijan Robinson is entering his Fourth season with the Falcons rushing for 1,478 years in 2025, while key weapons like Drake Lodon and Kyle Pitts gave Atlanta two deep threats and kept the defensive back in their toes. With the Falcons returning offensive line stars like Chris Lindstrom and Jake Mattews. Tua should have more protection the previous years. The Falcons are not a team that need to relay on their quarterback to win. They have weapons all around on bot sides of the ball. Now spreading the ball and attacking the ball are going to be the Falcons priority this year. They need someone who can distribute the football, avoid making mistakes and allow Atlanta playmakers to dictates the game.
This is where Tua comes into play
While Tua has not been an elite quarterback over the year and fumbles and concussion have been a big part of keeping consistent. With a veteran quarterback whos throw for 18,166 yards 120 touchdowns and completing 68% of his passes this has proven he’s demonstrated the ability to operate in a NFL offence. Of course the question becomes will Tua be able to shake off last season and start fresh. Atlanta has opened up for the sixth straight year with a new quarterback under center while this isn’t the recipe for stability, but stability doesn’t necessarily mean committing to one quarterback before he’s ready. Sometimes it means making the right decision that gives you the BEST chance at winning and winning now. This doesn’t close the door for Penix but it defiantly opens the door for Tua.
